Earth's Place in Outer Space

March has come and gone so quickly. Here's an update on what we've been working on in the past month.

We have spent the last three weeks learning all about space. We talked about the sun, the moon and the different planets of our solar system. Did you know that there used to be nine planets, but now there's only eight?

We also learned about spacecraft. Did you know there are three different kinds of spacecraft? They are spaceships, rovers, and satellites. Students can tell you about the different kinds.

We have found a series on songs that not only teach us about the different planets, the sun and the moon, but they're also super catchy! Links are at the end of this post so you can let us listen over the break.

Our teachers brought a giant map into class so we could learn about planet Earth. We have seen some pictures of different countries on Google Maps as well. A lot of the buildings in Europe look different than here in Canada. We have also seen a night market in Thailand, as well as pictures of deserts, canyons, and mountains. Our teachers sent home a paper for to fill out with names of cities and countries we all came from. Did you know that so far we have twenty different countries on our list?

We also did an engineering challenge with our space unit . We got to design and build our own spaceships in the maker space with Mr. Patry. Then Ms. Coates interviewed us about our designs and final products. We can't wait to take them home and show them to you!

We continue to learn the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. We are getting so good at thinking of words to go with our letters. Sometimes our teachers need to write really small so they can make sure they can fit all our ideas.

Soon we will be learning all about dinosaurs!

Our last day of school is March 21. Have a great spring break! School will begin again on Monday April 8th.
